I will the first to make it clear that I wasn't really into Alice in Wonderland period. So when I first heard of this book I wasn't really jumping at it, but it really surprised me. Alice was funny and strong. Hatta was charming, her friends were loyal. The adventure was grand, her mother was everything mines would have been. I really liked this one.

When I heard of this book, I was very excited to read it because I enjoyed the source material and was excited to read a new take on it. I was generally meh on the book. I wasn't captivated by this portrayal of Wonderland, the plot felt a bit typical, and I didn't latch onto any of the main characters. I was pretty confused by Court and how she was very gungho about encouraging Alice's superhero life and then got angry when typical superhero unreliability and flakiness happened. It's worth notin

I really want to tell you that I found this book amazing and that I immediately bought the next one in the series. An African-American Alice in an urban setting? An alternate explanation of how she came to Wonderland? Her being strong and brave and smart and vulnerable? What’s not to love?
