Sometimes a novel comes along that touches all your heartstrings, makes you feel deeply, and becomes unforgettable, and this is one of those books. The main character, Marie-Laure, is a true heroin, regardless of her circumstances, and her father is the kind of man anyone would dream to have as a parent (I could say more but not going to give anything away). The writing is absolutely breathtaking and you are immersed in a world full of sadness, tragedy, joy, and even beauty. What a novel! I give ...more

This book was simply wonderful. It has become one of my favourite books! The language used by Doerr is simple but in its simplicity it makes you feel the raw emotions that transpire from Marie-Laure and Werner during their two very different childhoods and then the common difficulties of war. The storyline is wonderful, exploring the growth of the characters and the development of their ideas.
