I enjoyed this collection of Anansi tales--the trickster nature of Anansi the spider provides great entertainment. Sometimes his antics cost him, while other times his ingenuity helps him to win. Either way, this book is packed with subtle life lessons for younger readers, all while offering a window into Caribbean folklore.

A great book to bring into the classroom, IMO, or for parents looking for homeschool books that will expose their kids to folklore & culture from the wider world.

A wonderful retelling of Jamaican tales. Anansai's adventures come to life and make us laugh and sigh at our human condition. The characters are bad, silly, vain and yet appealing and interesting. In her book, Ms. Denham uses just the right balance of old story and new language to hold our interest. ...more

A charming collection of stories featuring Anansi the spider, who is a trickster of note!
He is always trying to outsmart his friends in a battle of the wits. Sometimes he wins and sometimes he loses. The tone remains lighthearted and Anansi always seems to be upbeat as he prepares for, and then dives into, the next challenge.
We meet various characters including Wee Pig, Tiger, Beetle, Monkey, Dog, Guinea-Hen, Fish and Mosquito.
Besides providing great entertainment, each story has a moral/lesson.
