Fun adventure. I listened to the audible version too and so enjoyed it. I felt like I was there watching a movie. I also read the ebook. It is about friendship, competitiveness and having to move past that to a deeper friendship in a turbulent universe where war beckons on the horizon. There is some repetitiveness, the pace is great but the story keeps you reading and is well worth the read or listen. CassaStar is a really fun retro style sci-fi with some interesting technology.
Bryon is a troubled but gifted young pilot. With no family and few trusted friends, his only options in life are to use his natural piloting skills and carve a name for himself within the Cassan fleet. As his training intensifies and war looms, he must bury his troubled past, trust his newfound comrades and risk everything to become the hero he was born to be.

SciFi is a definite love of mine. At first I thought reading about a war in space would be difficult to finish, but now that I have read it through, I realize there are many wars in space I enjoyed in the past (Star Wars, Leviathan Wakes, watching Expanse and Battlestar Galactica). CassaStar does not carry with it the subplots that are present in the other tales but it was still captivating.
