So, I finished reading it. I like it better than the first time through and, perhaps understood it better too. I understand that F. Scott is a pillar of the cannon, but I can't see him as better than my favorite modern writers. Perhaps it is the story itself I find uncomfortable and disappointing. Selfishness permeates every main character and yet, only Gatsby is punished for it. In the end the plot feels cynical and disillusioned and I am a fan of neither.
