It took me a while to get through this book, as I got sidetracked with being in a play and reading/listening to other books. But, I’m glad that I did finish listening to it. Get out your reading glasses, this was a long one I considered a personal challenge to complete. The memoir of David Copperfield has it all: mystery, marriage, death, abuse, love, survival and a passion for family connection.

The thing about Charles Dickens is that I always want to write him off as sentimental and preachy (which he definitely is), but that he's also a damned fine storyteller that brings such empathy and detail to his characters that I get sucked in. He even gets away with the sin of using his own life story as fictional fodder.
