An always fun classic!
An epic fantasy story. I liked the different style of writing, very much a story-telling narration. It potentially could be a long, epic tale, but the way it is written it allows your imagination to fill in some of the blanks.
I am ashamed to say I have never read the Hobbit in its entirety before this year. And I have been missing out. The classic story of one hobbit’s remarkable journey to the Lonely Mountain and back again, as Gandalf predicts, leaves him a changed hobbit on his return to the one who left Bag End. I will not spoil for you the reasons for this, but please do read it and experience the marvellous and deeply profound tale for yourself.
Excellent worldbuilding, loads of action and adventure – and there’s a dragon!
My favourite scene is with the trolls.
Bilbo isn’t a very likeable character IMO, but Gandalf makes up for any shortcomings of the hobbit and dwarves.
A must-read for fantasy lovers.
