I haven’t read this book for many years, because I didn’t like it. I read it after Lord of the Rings, which I loved, and still read often. I had it in my head that I didn’t like Bilbo, thinking him pompous and silly. I realise now I have been enormously unfair, and I apologise to you, Mr Baggins, and trust you will find it in your good-hearted nature to forgive me.

The very first book I read cover to cover whilst at school and actually enjoyed, no loved. The world that Tolkien created captivated my young impressionable mind and firmly started my love affair for all things fantasy. I’ve had many copies of The Hobbit within my collection, each new one replacing the well thumbed previous copy such is the amount of times I’ve returned to this childhood classic.
