Horrified. Mystified. That’s how this book left me.

I read this book when it came out in 2002, and found that many times I had to set the book down because it felt so sad or the evil embodied by pedophile neighbor Mr. Harvey just seemed all too real. I can still picture where I was when I read this. I really enjoyed this touching and powerful book. I appreciated the author's ability to connect the reader with Susie, the victim of a horrific crime committed by a very evil man. I enjoyed experiencing Susie's thoughts from her vantage point in the afterlife. I also appreciated the fact that the author discussed the ways in such a devastating incident disrupts the family of the victim. I simply can't think of much to say without giving away things that the reader should discover for themselves,

This wasn’t at all what I was expecting. It was full of rambling, jumped from one place in time to another with no warning, and was basically plotless. I kept waiting for things to connect, for there to be a reason for the things happening, but it never came.
If you want to read about the different ways people handle grief in a novel form, then you’d probably enjoy this.
