This book is great for all writers, not just screenwriters! The beats list is pure genius. Thanks to Blake Snyder for writing such a fun, easy to follow guide.
My friend Elana Johnson recommended this and she was so right. Although it was written for screenplays, the principles apply as well to writing novels. It really tells you how to outline your story and keep the pace increasing.
Though this is a script-writing guide many of its pointers apply to novel writing as well.

Great book about writing. While it is specific to screenplays, most of the tips are useful regardless of whether you're writing a screenplay, novel, or short story. And, frankly, the author's different approach to genres and outlining helped my brain reconsider my own works-in-progress from a different angle.
