Anne Lamott is my dream creative writing coach. She wraps up insight with a great bow of commiseration that makes me feel better. After reading this, I'm pretty sure that at some point in my life, I'm going to go out of my way to hear her speak. I laughed a lot throughout, but, during her chapter on publication, until I cried. What makes her humor so great, I think, is because it comes from a really honest, introspective place. ...more

So this book wasn’t what I thought it would be. After hearing a lot about it, I decided I needed to read it, but I wasn’t really impressed.
Rather than being an instructional book, it was mostly the author’s thoughts about her own writing life mixed with stories about her day to day life. While some of it was interesting, she tended to be pessimistic and dramatic.
