Writing isn't easy. Author, Anne Lamott reminds us of this in her irreverent look at what it's like to be a writer. Scattered thoughts on index cards, hours of staring at blank pieces of paper, those awful first drafts, and the rejections. Why do we do it?

It could be that writers are all psychotic nutcases on the edge of nervous breakdowns. Or it could be that there's some kind of thrill in the creative process and a sense of accomplishment in actually seeing your work in print.

A fabulous guide to writing rules and throwing those rules away. Anne makes this a very personal expression of her best writing advice based on what has and has not worked for her. Anne recommends going to the closets and corners of our life to find the truth no matter how painful. It's the only way to write genuine. Her emphasis on writing for passion and not for money or to be published is the core message. I hope she updates and writes a part 2 because it is over 20 years old and although the ...more
