What Members Thought

I'm hard-pressed to say which part of this book I liked more. Both the memoir and the how-to-write sections are humourous, insightful, and quotable. Now having read this, I look back on all the writing blogs that have indeed quoted King, and it's shocking how often his words have been twisted into bad writing advice in the seventeen years since On Writing was published.

I have been a fan of Stephen King for many years. I read this book when it first came out and enjoyed reading it again. Of course, I am very glad that he survived his terrible accident and is now doing better.
I would not thrive writing the way Mr. King recommends: by shutting myself in a room for two hours with everything tuned out. I would start to feel as if I was in a dungeon fairly quickly. I am based in my living room where I can look out the window. I don't know if he would like my writing ...more

If you have aspirations of writing or you just love a good read you should pick this up now!
This book was half autobiography and half writing craft. His writing style is so inviting and he's had an interesting life. The section covering the craft of writing is very informative and insightful. I now have the urge to read the Elements of Style again thanks to Mr. King. ...more
