I have rounded this up, my git feeling is this is 2.5* but i read this as an ebook, which is not my preferred manner of reading, so I think that deserves rounding up.

I found the book interesting, especially the information on the artist Marina Abramovic, however I would have liked more story about the supporting characters.

Again, I think I may not have "got into this" the way I would have with a physical book.
I liked the story, but just not enough to rave about.

I would have liked more.

I didn't care about any of the (fictional) characters, they were all very blah to me, with privileged and passive Arky being just annoying, but what I appreciated about the book was that it introduced me to Marina Abramovic who I knew nothing about (and made me watch some documentaries and interviews with her- I actually had watched most of them before reading the book as a "preparation/ introduction") so for that reason I'm very glad I read it! ...more

"This is where I watch artists stumble, as they oscillate between force and submission. You would be amazed how rare it is for artists to feel moments of true satisfaction. When they're inside their craft, inside color or movement or sound, words or clay or pictures or dance, when they submit to the art, that is when they know two things--the void that is life and the pull that is death. The grand and the hollow. The best reflects that. To be such harbingers of truth is not without its cost. It' ...more

This book surprised me I am a regular gallery attendant who approaches ‘modern art’ with extreme caution. Not only did I feel like I was at MOMA experiencing the exhibit I felt disappointed I didn’t get to see it for myself. I loved the depth she went into for each character. I love how this one exhibition connected all these people & the effect it had on there next life choices. Also really clever writing. I would highly recommend.
