Another great novel that has been turned into a movie--this time with miserable results. If you've seen the movie but haven't read the book, get reading. The movie, in my humble opinion, was awful. Too many key scenes were left out. I understand time restraints, but please... The story follows a young girl over several years of her life, bouncing from one foster home to another, after her mother poisons an ex- with white oleander. White Oleander is a fictional account in which the key event of domestic violence in not from the usual expected, conventional route; although in real life, the behaviors and dynamics within the family fit the domestic violence pattern; I am deliberately being vague to keep from revealing the spoilers.

The writing flows and the plot is rich with intrigue as a family that was loosely hanging by a thread, is totally torn apart by the acts of desperation and obsession.
