I was drawn into this story from the beginning. This eccentric family of 3 living isolated from the rest of the town, years after every other member in the household was murdered.
Who murdered the other family members? Well, Constance was acquitted of the crime and no one else was brought to justice.
The people in the town strongly dislike the remaining occupants, and whenever Mary Kat goes to town, they treat her like a pariah. Then their cousin show ...more

What a troubled child.

Not sure how to review this story. It wasn't my thing. It's definitely a psychological story. A madness that everyone in this family seems to have some form of. I found it kind of slow and wondered where the story was going for pretty much the whole book. Uncle Julian somehow survived the arsenic but now his mind flip flops from the present to the past and his body is trapped to a chair. Constance, Merrikat and Uncle Julian are living with their terrible past, in the famiy home, things are set to change when Cousin Charles come visiting. Merrikat does everything in he powers to protect her remaining family.
The story starts slowly, but the pace picks up to it's terrible conclusion, a quick read. ...more
