What Members Thought

The history nerd part of me was living for this book; the vampire nerd in me thought it was fine. I’ll do a longer review later but if you’re not a history nerd AND into vampires, pass this one over. You really need to be hopelessly into both subjects to enjoy this novel.

I really enjoyed this book and it was engaging enough that it kept me hooked right the way through.
The amount of detail in the historical events that are described is amazing and for me, they really made the book.
However I did find that the daughter, the Narrator, grew steadily less and less interesting until I found that I was skimming her scenes until another extended flashback started. It was something of a letdown after the promising first few chapters.

Another book that I may never have chosen on my own. An online friend recommended this one to me, and in all honesty, I almost didn't bother to finish. The novel is thick, somewhat slow in the start, but is definitely worth it in the end (with the exception of one section in the middle that reads disturbingly like a term paper)
