What Members Thought

Wow, it was powerful, scary, disturbing, and terrifying. I cannot image being put into that situation. Be it Lia's poor parents. The doctors who did not know what to do. I cannot imagine it. These problems need to be resolved. I know they are being resolved but, they need to be resolved even faster.

I wasn't too impressed with most of this book. The alternating chapters between Lia's story and that of the Hmong as a whole was annoying. I much preferred those chapters dealing with the Lee family since the other chapters were filled with way too much information to enjoy. While it is obvious that Fadiman cares about her work, I didn't like how much of herself she put into the book. I'd only recommend this one to people interested in learning about the Hmong.
