This is a remarkable book that really inspires as well as grounds you -- thinking about the things that really matter in life. When all is lost, everything is taken away from you, what is truly important? Loved this memoir. It is about a combination leper hospital/federal prison in Louisiana in the mid 1990's and a man's life changing experience as a prisoner there. He learns many wonderful life lessons There is some language involved since it takes place in a prison but I loved it. I have been fascinated with the topic of leprosy and leper colonies since reading Molokai. People are stunned to know that leprosy still exists in the US today!

I am oddly fascinated by the colonies created for leprosy patients, as this is the third book I've read on the subject. It is however, the first non-fiction account. While I found it fascinating the Federal government moved federal prisoners in with a dwindling population of leprosy patients and petty much gave them a country club of a prison - complete with 5-day furloughs away from prison, I found the narrator to be a jackass for whom I was completely unsympathetic.
