I remember really liking this book when I was about the same age as our girls are now. As I read it again, I realized how dated it is (especially the prices of things), but it is still a great story.

This is a fantastic book!!! I recommend it to everyone.
I think the first time I heard this story was somewhere around the 3rd grade. The teacher read it to us in story hour, over the course of a few days. I found a copy a few years ago at the thrift store and was thrilled. I love this book.
