Again, Dessen writes about such complex issues of flawed characters who strive for perfection without acknowledging their inner grief. I could relate to the main character, Macy, who feels that since her world is falling apart, she needs to control all aspects of her personal life. Her mother carries a facade of everything being "fine", too, especially in conducting her public persona. But everyone has their breaking point, and in the process, Macy finds herself and some true friends to help her
