This is an original and unusual story told by an autistic (not Asperger but more severely disabled) boy using his exceptional gifts of math, science, and memory to solve the crime after somebody kills the neighbor lady's dog, while simultaneously trying to navigate a world in which the adults who care for him prove inadequate in their efforts to provide him with the secure routine he needs to maintain control. Possibly one of the stranger books that I have read. The author, Mark Haddon, has remarkable insight into the workings of the Autistic/Asperger's spectrum mind. A very charming (and a little sad) story of a boy with autism trying to make his way in life. I loved the stream of consiousness style and found myself laughing aloud (with not at) the protagonist as he tried to describe how he viewed the world and his place within it.

This book was really, um, different. Eccentric. Kinda weird. About a 15-year-old autistic boy (or a savant? He has an amazing ability with numbers and memorization) who lives with his dad. The neighborhood dog is killed and the boy tries to solve the mystery of "who done it."

Easy, quick read but not so sure I'd recommend it.
