What Members Thought
Most people dislike Okonkwo, but I had nothing but sympathy for him. He is a hard working guy who obeys the norms of his society. His animistic, patriarchal world, is soon replaced by a Christian, patriarchal world. And yeah, things fall apart.
The criticism of this book, that it's racist (black=bad and white= good), is lost on me. I found it to be a story of how one society is replaced by another society, no better (or less dogmatic) than the old one. If I had to describe this book in one senten ...more
