This book helped open the way for many mainstream readers to get a glimpse and feel for middle eastern culture and issues. I had studied the Middle East fairly extensively in college and was not shocked and surprised at the book the way that many are. I prefer "Thousand Splendid Suns" since it gives the woman's perspective of the culture but I thought both books were bold and well done.

This book really had potential. Unfortunatly in fell short of what it could have been. While I didnt dislike this book I just felt like it shoud get better at then end of every chapter and it just didnt. By the time I was about halfway through it I was gettin a little irritated at how many times the author threw in Afghani words and then said what they meant in english later in the sentance.
