Set in 1914, Stewart introduces three sisters, living on a farm in New Jersey, who end up tangling with gang of mobsters when their buggy is broadsided by a car belonging to the miscreant silk factory owner, Henry Kaufman. Stewart's characters, the accident, events, and the ensuing trial are drawn from actual letters and newspaper accounts.
