[close] The Fireman is a quick, unputdownable 700 + page novel that will keep you up reading all night and make you want to call in unable to work. Noone really knows where the Dragonscale spore originated. Many and various theories abound, the most likely is, that as the ice caps melt and the planet heats up, the spore is released into the atmosphere (Natures’ own safety valve to save earth from mankind’s destructive tendencies). This is one of the most creative takes on apocalyptic literature that I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The protagonist, Harper Willowes, is a young, pregnant nurse who risks her own health to tend others. This is her story and I loved it! Highly recommended for all Hill and King fans.
