Another light read, also good and with the added essence of local flair and flavour. Sam Shepard is a sole charge police constable in Mataura. A local woman (Gaby Knowles) is dead but the supposed suicide is in fact murder, to complicate the picture Gaby's husband is Sam's former lover. Sam, herself falls under suspicion as the police big boys come in from Invercargill and Dunedin to investigate. Whilst suspended she tries to find out the truth behind Gaby's death. This was surprisingly good - it had good reviews, but it took me ages to actually read it. I find NZ authors try to hard to work NZ into their books, rather than concentrating on a good story. This managed to do both!
