While not a conventional horror story, “My Death” is uncanny and chilling and supernatural. The plot involves a middle-aged woman who finds herself alone after the death of her husband and at sea in her writing career.

Holy cow, this book. What a perfect novella.
I first heard of Lisa Tuttle in Monster, She Wrote and added her to my long tbr list. Then last year (okay, a few months ago, but it’s New Year’s Day, so Imma be dramatic) NYRB Classics published My Death and finally it was time.
This was perfect. I don’t know what her other work is like, but this just fit into all the things I like. A vaguely Possession-like story of researching an author, all the name drops of 20s personalities, name dropping Virago ...more
