What Members Thought
This is one of those rare books that manages to beautifully capture a life. The words Moore uses worked their way into my mind as imagery, feelings, and understanding. It’s difficult to explain, but this book is something like a sculpture of life carved out of the stuff that comprises human thought. The life depicted, however, is not beautiful. It is filled with hardship, insecurity, and tragedy. In fact, it’s a fairy tale in retrograde in just about every way.

This is a book I read more years ago than I can remember, but just seeing its title, reminded me of Moore's gut-wrenching and unflinching insight into Judith Hearne's Belfast life. A stunning portrait of loneliness. Want to read again. It's also on Netflix, but Moore's writing is better.
