What Members Thought

Carl admits "to write a book on a subject so far from one's primary training is at best incautious". But his scientific objectivity won him the Pulitzer in 1978 with this thoughtful "Distinguished book of Nonfiction". There are conclusions drawn with the data available in its 1977 publication that we know more about today (dinosaur extinction by asteroid not even mentioned). But he clearly leaves room for scientific data to lead to new interpretations.

Sagan speculates about brain development and evolution in pre-humans. Sagan had a gift for conveying complex information and material in a way that a wide non-expert audience could grasp and understand (e.g., the "Cosmos" TV series)
