I love deeply weird books, and this isn't just a deeply weird book. This is a highly unconventional, inventive, expectation-outmaneuvering book. Hell. Yes. George Saunders knocked it out of the park with this one.
I didn't know what to expect when I picked up this book, and I barely knew what a bardo was, but I really enjoyed Pastoralia, so I figured I might as well give this one a go.

The concept behind this book is intriguing, and in general, George Saunders executes it well. I liked the combination of factual citations from books / newspapers and the imaginary story in the Bardo. The latter reminded me of Margaret Atwood's Maddaddam Trilogy. But most meaningful to me was the way Saunders portrayed Lincoln and the terrible stress he endured due to the Civil War and his son's death. It was very beautifully done.
