This is a book club pick I am down with. I started reading it while on a plane, with no wi-fi, so I got in the habit of roughly translating frequent handfuls of Spanish phrases and colloquialisms based on my rusty formal castilian Spanish, context, and digging for Latin roots. On one hand, my confidence in reading simple Spanish again is high! By the end of the book I was translating really well. Bored. I was bored for most of this book. I think it might've been the author's yappy tone, because the characters were interesting enough, particularly the women. It didn't help that the first section was teenage Oscar and how he was too fat for girls to have sex with but he really wanted to have sex with girls and also did you know girls have breasts and asses and vaginas (only spoken of in Spanish slang) and sex and then did the author mention sex?
