I loved this book. I've never read anything by the great atheists in history, so this was a new experience. I'm such a confirmed atheist, but reading Dawkins, who is practically militant about it, was breath-takingly refreshing. Unfortunately it resulted in making me feel even less tolerant of religious belief than I already felt. I read this on audiobook on my ipod, which was an excellent way to absorb it.

Well written, competent, and at times, hilarious, the God Delusion is a worthy addition to anti-religious writing. The best selling of all of the books from the New Atheists, long-time atheist religion basher Richard Dawkins takes us through familiar objections to arguments in favor of God and religion. Dawkins focuses the whole of his attack on the "Big 3" Abrahamic monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Other religions and non-personal conceptions of God are not addressed.

Dawkins makes a clear, unassailable argument that god is highly implausible. If you are an atheist, you will find this book immensely readable and satisfying, but it won't offer any new ideas to you. If you are strongly religious, you will find this book immensely frustrating, and it won't change your mind about anything. If you are on the fence, however, Dawkin's book might offer you something more profound. ...more

This book was absolutely fantastic. I already had my beliefs figured out, so it didn't change anything with me - but it definitely helped me sort things out better in my head.

Regardless of who you are, I recommend the book. It might piss you off, but it's worth reading just so you at least think about things.
