I am not a short story fan but apparently I'm an essay fan, especially if they're hilarious. I loved every minute of this. ...more

I laugh out loud so much reading Sam's work, WANMIRL is no exception. But it broke my heart too. By being so open, this book peeled off the scabs of wounds I thought had healed over and made me look at them in a new and more self aware light. It's a miracle of humor and warmth. I have the sparkle feeling. FIVE STARS ...more

Still very funny! But sadder, denser, more complicated than Meaty. I was weirdly affected by "Yo, I Need a Job," because I've also worked as a veterinary receptionist and I can totally see how it would lower your opinion of humanity, but also how you could keep doing it for over a decade. ...more

As usual Sam Irby toes the line between disgustingly hilarious and disgusting. I think I have an idea of how my friends, who have described my vocabulary as "graphic", might feel when I'm on a tear.
I was pleasantly surprised by the more touching parts, and had to take a break after "Feelings are a mistake" because of feelings overload.

I will read everything she writes.

So I went to the bookstore during my summer vacation to get one stinkin book. Just one. But by the time I read the first line, I knew I had to get this book too. I was laughing so loud people in the bookstore were giving me the hairy eyeball, and I did not care. Anyway get this book and read it! Cuz I said so.

I picked this book up on a whim and I was not disappointed. I have never laughed so hard or felt so much while reading an essay collection. Samantha Irby is so hilariously, heartbreakingly genuine. Definitely a new favorite.

Funny, poignant, and realistic essays. Truly laugh out loud but also almost painfully truthful.

Some of the essays are super hilarious though I would not describe this book as a comedy. It is funny and heartbreaking and interesting. It was comforting to find how relatable some of the essays are, in terms of anxiety and relationships.
