I learned so much about WWII internment camps from this novel. Especially poignant to me were the descriptions of the German citizens being bombed in Germany. This is something my mother lived through and the author’s words really brought to life what little my mother shared about this horrifying experience.
I am a big fan of books by Susan Meissner, so it was no surprise that I enjoyed this one as well. Although, for me, A Fall of Marigolds, is her absolute best book! This novel took me a little longer to read and once I realized that was going to be the case, I settled in and really dug into the story. Beautifully written with well crafted characters. Meissner has the ability to pull the reader into the story, making them feel exactly what the characters are feeling. I love that she doesn't protect us from the difficulties of history, but she does infuse them with hope. Another amazing book!
