Wow, having seen the movie, I expected to like the book but never thought I would love it so much.
The plot is one of my favorites; a woman's struggle to survive and gradually empowering herself. The description of the South cities and social relationships during Civil War and Reconstruction periods is excellent. I finished it this morning just in time for my book club discussion. I loved it! The last time I read this book, I was in my teens. I appreciated the whole scope of the storyline so much more this time. I had a great time reading it again!

Ok, I know it's a classic. I know it's well loved. I thought, I knew it was about the civil war. Well I was wrong. The long and short of it, it's simply a love story/romance saga. It took me 6 months to read this, and I was determined to finish, but I still hate it. The only honest character is Rhett. I dislike all the characters, all are annoying. The only redeeming quality in the book are the actual references to the civil war itself and the political environment, before, during and after. It'
