I read this book as part of a month-long readathon project, #middlegrademarch.
Nan is a young girl who happens to be a chimney sweep during Victorian London. Her "monster" was just as much a main character as Nan herself. Their relationship was quite lovely and emotional. The narrative was very atmospheric and pulled me in from the very first page. I could vividly see Nan jumping from rooftop to rooftop.
