Pure, middle-grade magic!
This is, ultimately, a story about friendship, about love, about sacrifice. A story about overcoming fears and tragedies and countless setbacks, and about making your world a better and safer place than when you entered it. The plot moves, the characters leap off the page and grab your heart, and I didn't want them to let go... until they did. Could have kept on reading for a while.

4.5? I didn’t love everything here, but I did enjoy the book very much. I liked the way the book played with the idea of monsters; who is a true monster, what appearances might or might not have to do with it, and how one’s actions make all the difference.

This was a sweet book. I don't think children would really enjoy the book though. It was hard as an adult to keep reading, but I had heard so many good things about the book I kept going. It was touching, but I really don't see most of my students enjoying this book. ...more
