Kristin Hannah has done it again! This epic novel of the Allbright’s migration to Alaska after Ernt, the father, has returned war torn from Vietnam brings the characters and settings to brilliant life. Though parts of the book were difficult to read, the sweeping story of Ernt’s daughter,Leni, wife, Cora, and their life in Alaska was captivating from start to finish. I was a solid four stars for this one until the end and it quickly bounded to five stars because I would read this again and would

Characters
The characters within this story are so vivid and well-developed. They felt so real to me. They are flawed and complex and they truly come alive as you read this story. The complexity of these characters adds a richness that I loved. You love and root for some characters and you despise other characters, but it's not that simple.

It also had plenty of repetition, plenty of formulaic writing, plenty of predictable action. I liked the descriptions of Alaska. By about disc 9 or 10 (I listened to the audio version), I was ready for the story to end.
