I absolutely loved this book about a family who relocates to Alaska in the 1970s following the Vietnam War. Thirteen-year-old Leni Albright's father is not the man he used to be-- a former soldier, he now suffers from PTSD, drinks heavily and is verbally and physically abusive to his wife. Living in an isolated community is not easy for the family, especially when his abusive nature gradually becomes common knowledge around town.
