I loved this book! I kept reading portions out loud to my husband because I just could not believe what these men endured. I am always amazed at the human spirit and this book really showcases this fortitude. Although the book focuses on one man, it was wonderful and heartbreaking to read about others. One way that I know a book is great is if it has me longing to read more about the subject, which this one has done. I want to read more about the war, more about the Japanese, and the aftermath. ...more

Loved this book! This is an extremely page-turning nonfiction book. I could not put it down. I listened to the audiobook and it was fantastic. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys WW2 stories or people who face adversity and are able to overcome it.

Such a powerful story of survival. You can certainly see the amount of research that went into this book. It took me a little bit to get into the book. As important as it is to build the backstory,  I actually found the first 4th of the book quite boring. But it does give us readers an in-depth look into Louie's pre-military life. 4,5 stars rounded up to 5.

I finished the book with tears in my eyes. The subject matter really hard to read but it was told so beatifully that I could not get enough of it.
This book is a non-fiction book which is written like a fiction book in most parts. On the other hand, there is a hint that makes us not forget that these events really happened.

I am so glad to have met Louis Zamperini. Thank you Louis and Laura Hillenbrand for sharing this poignant tale of the human condition. On one side there is cruelty and pain that human beings can inflict on each other; war, and murder but yet on the other, the spirit of forgiveness and resiliency. Thankfully Louis' story teaches us what side to be on.

If you're feeling down about your life or something in it, read this book to be inspired.
