Another hit out of the ballpark for Kate Morton fans. The setting and characters are touchable.
Kate Morton does a great service toward women in this novel. Reading between the lines, a common thread woven throughout the generations of the women in the story is how their fierce loyalty and resolve to protect the ones they love is often misunderstood rendering them harsh or the opposite what they truly are, loving and kind and protective.

This book deserves 3.5 stars in my opinion - better than 3, but not good enough to deserve 4. This was my 3rd Kate Morton novel and my least favorite. I know it's all been said before here on Goodreads, but this was a very wordy, convoluted mystery that had us jumping between 3 time periods. I just finished the book and I did not like the ending.
On the other hand, I really enjoyed all the characters, their stories and even the side stories. And I also I liked Morton's writing although I thought the book could have been shorter.

Although this book is almost 500 pages, the story moves at a good pace. I really enjoyed the historical fiction aspect mixed with the mystery. The story was told over different years, 70 years, apart which was a bit confusing at first, but as I got to know the characters it was easier to follow the story. I can’t wait to read more by his author.
