This book is breathtakingly beautiful.
I read the historical notes before I read the novel; I would recommend that others do the same. I was a bit taken aback to realize that there are still between 1,000 and 3,000 cases of Plague diagnosed each year--I tend to think of the disease as a 17th century phenomenon. Scary. Pass the penicillin, please.
I found the character of Anna to be a bit anachronistic, perhaps, for 1666 England,however. She comes across as a woman with relatively modern sensibilit ...more

Just finished - one of my book club selections. I think this is my first book that chronicles the plague from 1665-1666 in England. I enjoyed it but wish the epilogue had given me a teeny bit more info.
