I give this book a 2.75. I marginally liked it but was really bored by reading day-to-day personalities in Savannah. That is although I would love to meet these people, I do not necessarily want to read about it. Thus, my rating of this book is just a matter of taste.
The book is about a reporter's ethnographic participant observer-type writing in Savannah, GA a backwater microcosm of American society. I imagine all small town's that value its history will have stories similar to Savannah. I like ...more

Fabulous story with all sorts of wierd and fascinating characters that are real people. I really found this book terrifically entertaining and a very satisfying read. I visited Savannah after I had read the book and found it all the more wonderful for having read about it. Saw some of the streets and big houses, the graveyard and avenues.... I really enjoyed it. Great book!

I can't believe this book is non-fiction - the way it is written it just reads so beautifully and the plot is too perfect to have possibly fallen in the author's lap! The characters - and they truly are characters - are engrossing and the location is written about so descriptively you want to visit right away. Throw in a murder and the pages turn even faster.
