Sometimes when people keep recommending a book, you should listen and read that book. The Forgotten Garden is such a book. You finally read it and end up wondering why in the world you waited so long. I had seen quite of few Kate Morton's books around and with all the publicity over her new novel, I thought it was time find out what all the fuss is about.
The story looks at the secrets that families have and how unraveling them can be difficult. There are three women who are the focus, Nell, Cassandra and Eliza and each has a story to tell and each has a story that impacts on the other. You find yourself following their lives and being quite swept along with it.

Dear The Forgotten Garden,
I was shy at first, but your charisma and mystique were intoxicating. I set aside other responsibilities to spend more time with you, and that time was well spent. You made me laugh and cry and fear, and your descriptions were exquisite. I want to visit you again and unfold the layers of your mystery to find all the hints you dropped along the way. I will recommend you to people who love fairy tales, historical fiction, and twisted mysteries. But they better not ask for ...more

I felt like the story was choppy. It jumped from three generations back and forth and I felt even at the end some questions were never quite answered. Overall I did like the story and would like to read more by this author.

This is the story that spans 100 years of several generations of women. It goes back and forth between the stories trying to identify Nell who was found on the boat docks with no parents and no one to pick her up. It follows through to tell you who Nell is and how/why she ended up alone.
This was a good read - though it was VERY long. I liked how some of the stories played out and was angered at how others ended...but emotion is the sign of a good book - right? ;)
