What a fantastic book! What could’ve been dreadfully boring facts in another authors hands, Larson has turned into an enthralling & human read with many new facts & a sense of what it must have been like on that horrible day when Germany stepped over that “civilians are exempt” line. Highly recommend.

Move over Devil in the White City, there is a new best. Incredible, heart gripping, human story of tragedy and survivors, of WWI, Germans, the British, Americans, spies and leaders and captains and Presidents. How a ship and a people met their fate. I couldn't put it down.

Absorbing historical nonfiction that reads like fiction. Though this one dragged a bit in the middle, for me, overall I love Larson's style and the way he delves deep into his subjects.
