What Members Thought
This book is stunning, part coming of age, part love story, and an acute study of race, gender, and identity. I wasn’t prepared for the end, but I think that has more to do with my own desires as a reader instead of a fault of the book.
I never give a book 5 stars unless I mean it. I really mean this: I loved this book. I will read this book over and over again.
I loved so much about this book. It was beautifully written, it delved deeply into the subject of race with intelligence and made me want to cheer at times with its witty rebukes such as "Racism should never have happened so you don't get a cookie for reducing it." Ifemelu was interesting and complex and I could have read another 600 plus pages about her story.

This book has sat on my TBR for a very long time and has been highly recommended. Truthfully, I was underwhelmed by the story and writing. Parts were outstanding but I felt it dragged and was a little overwritten for my taste.
Enjoyed the book and the narration. Found myself wishing that Ifem's blogs were real and that I could read them. Introduced me to a different culture.
