Louisiana born and raised Rory Deveaux is going to a boarding school in London for her senior of school. But shortly after Rory's arrival, a young girl is murdered in an exact copycat of Jack the Ripper's first murder and there's promises of more to come. Then one night, Rory sees a man that the police believe to be the prime suspect. The problem? She's the only person that sees him. And, because of her unique ability, it appears that Rory is now on his hit list.

I am sad that the book is over! I hope Maureen Johnson is busy working her witty little butt off on the sequel because I want more. It made for great October audio book, creepy but humorous. There's danger, hauntings, team sports (which might be the scariest part of the book, a 21 Jump Street feel to the plot, quirky characters, normal characters, boring, prissy characters, and a tiny bit of romance (although it's not the focus of the story, everyone- take a deep breathe of relief with me!). Update: Finished. *Really* liked it. Johnson's main story starts out like a typical boarding school novel, but then WHAM it's not. And guess what? No vamps! Winding the mythology of Jack the Ripper with current time murder and normal boarding school shenanigans, Johnson goes a little "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" on us and the result is really, really good.

Very impressed with this book. This is Johnson's first attempt at anything paranormal (right?) and she did a great job. It was not as bogged down as some books are that are first in a paranormal series with world and mythology building. It is a little light on the paranormal, but I feel like she's left lots of room to develop that (can't give anything away, but she leaves all that wide open at the end). I enjoyed Rory (Aurora) as a character. She was very realistic, but not heavy handed. She did

Rory Deveaux is a Louisiana girl recently arrived in London; she'll be spending her last year of high school at Wexford. On the day of her arrival, everyone is talking about the new Ripper murder. A body has been found on the anniversary of the death of Mary Ann Nichols, bearing the same wounds and in the same location. Word is out that Jack is back! As each new anniversary approaches, London becomes more tense. Soon, the students at Wexford find themselves under lock and key in an attempt to pr
