Some of the comments from our discussion - "Boring", "Annoying", "Loved it", "Well-written, "Humorous". This was another of those Reading Group books which split the group not quite down the middle, but which nevertheless sparked off an interesting discussion. It wasn't quite what we were expecting i.e. a serious but heartwarming journey of redemption. Instead, there is a rather bleak reason for the father's journey with his three sons. I thought this book was stunning. The descriptions of landscape will stay with me. The brothers' conversations amongst themselves and with their father rang true to me and reminded me of my own family. The novel was thought provoking and heart breaking and at times difficult to read but I loved it.
