Full disclosure: I won this (gorgeous, hardback) book in a Goodreads giveaway. It has taken me a few months to get around to reading it though, during which time lots of other people have read it, and for the most part, raved about it. I’m not sure my review can add much!

The audio was excellent, especially Nick Offerman as Hans Vollman and David Sedaris as Roger Bevins III. Also, Bill Hader and Megan Mullally were hilarious as the Barons.

Ok literary friends, it's time to interrupt your reading lists and start this audiobook immediately. This is a masterwork. At once so utterly weird and fantastical and yet so moving and tragic. It's a tragic theater and word poetry and novel on grief combined. You won't be upset you delayed whatever you had next in your list. ...more
